Tokyo is very much a lingering force in the final season, as even later on in season 5 part 2 she helps Stockholm (Esther Acebo), who is still suffering from PTSD after shooting Arturo Román (Enrique Arce). Sorry, don’t mind us, just sobbing over here! Yes, you guessed it-it’s a reference to the discussion Tokyo and Rio had during the first heist in the Royal Mint of Spain in seasons 1 and 2, where Tokyo tells Rio about how her mother made up a story about a small door drawn on the wall in chalk and how if Tokyo was scared, she could open the door and her mom would be right there. This also leads to the moment where we may have shed a tear, as Rio tells Tokyo’s spirit that a door will always remain open to her in his heart.

We see as Rio bends down, they can still feel Tokyo’s spirit in the room where she died.Īs Rio has this moment, we hear Tokyo talking about how even after you’ve left this life, your spirit lingers for a little bit in the real world, which allows her to tell Rio that she is okay. We also witness a very moving scene in the last episode of season five part two-we see her share another farewell with Rio (Miguel Herrán) from beyond the grave. This is definitely the case with Tokyo, as we quickly discover that she is still our narrator in the new eps! We know from the death of Berlin in season two that, even in death, big characters still play an integral part of the show’s plot. And it might not truly be the end. With dead Money Heist characters constantly returning in flashback scenes, Tokyo's death may be a way to redeem the character while still keeping her in the show.A post shared by Netflix España (opens in new tab)Ī photo posted by on Is Tokyo really dead in 'Money Heist'? However, by sacrificing herself for the gang, Tokyo finally redeems herself. In season 3, she even leaves Rio (Miguel Herrán) on an island to go off and live her life, which eventually leads to law enforcement capturing and torturing Rio after he tries to contact her. She's often selfish and unreliable, putting her wants and needs ahead of others no matter the consequences. Throughout Money Heist, Tokyo has been one of the most polarizing characters. Tokyo's death is her redemption in the show. Despite facing a dead end, she makes it clear that she'll never " drop her gun" and make it easy on her enemies. In fact, at the start of the episode, Tokyo basically admits it's the end of the line. Episode 5 goes even heavier on Tokyo flashbacks, showing the fateful heist that killed her former love and further hinting that her time on the show is coming to an end. Then, throughout the season, flashbacks introduce more of Tokyo's Money Heist backstory and how she lost the love of her life in a heist. In the season 5 premiere, Tokyo explains to Lisbon (Itziar Ituño) that love gets accelerated in heists because every moment could be someone's last one. Money Heist set up Tokyo's death all season long.

Then, when Gandia gets close enough, Tokyo reveals she pulled the pins on grenades on her chest, which causes a massive explosion and apparently kills her along with several enemies. She ultimately sacrifices herself to help the others, taking numerous bullets as the army closes in. A dumbwaiter is the only way out of the situation, but Tokyo is too severely injured to escape. During the episode, Gandia (José Manuel Poga) and other assailants are closing in on Tokyo, Denver (Jaime Lorente), and Manila (Belén Cuesta). In episode 5 of the final season of Money Heist, the show seemingly kills off Tokyo. Related: Money Heist: The Huge Clue To The Professor's Identity That Murillo Missed

With numerous flashbacks diving into Rafael and Berlin's past, there's a possibility the character can play a significant role in the final episodes.

Additionally, part one of the final season introduced Berlin's secret son Rafael (Patrick Criado). Her allegiance to the gang or the government will come into question in part two. In part one, Inspector Alicia Sierra (Najwa Nimri) captures the Professor, but she eventually lets him go to deliver her baby. The first part of Money Heist season 5 has already introduced numerous twists and questions.
